Ask the operating airline
Check every flight, including codeshares and connections. Ask how a hockey bag and stick bag are counted, what dimensions and weight apply, and whether advance booking is required. Save the written response with your booking.
Measure the actual bags
Measure and weigh your packed gear, not an empty bag. Goalies should check the dimensions of their full kit separately. Confirm any oversized-baggage fees before choosing the flight.
Pack so an inspection is manageable
Protect stick blades and ends, secure loose straps and label each bag with a contact method. Check the carrier’s rules for liquids, tools, batteries and skate carriage. Photograph the packed equipment before check-in.
Plan for a delayed bag
Keep essential documents and permitted necessities accessible. Ask the airline where to report missing equipment, and speak with the organizer about local options if your kit is delayed. Check travel cover for the activity you are actually doing.
The trip does not end at baggage claim
Book vehicles with enough room for players and their gear. Check late arrival arrangements and whether your accommodation has an appropriate place to air equipment. Recheck the baggage rules for your return flight.
